Rampion Offshore Windfarm - Visitor Centre

Brighton, UK

Technically Creative partnered with the Rampion Offshore Windfarm Visitor Centre to deliver an engaging and educational AV experience. Our team supplied interactive touchscreens, immersive projection video content, and VR headsets for 360-degree video playback, creating a dynamic platform for visitors to explore renewable energy and offshore wind technology. These cutting-edge solutions were designed to inspire and educate audiences of all ages, blending technology and creativity to bring the story of sustainable energy to life.

As part of the Rampion project the team at Technically Creative were tasked with producing an interactive projection display. The purpose was to educate the visitors as to how the energy is captured using wind turbines and the journey of the electricity into homes and services. The content interactively displayed how electricity was sent to an offshore substation. From here the electricity travels through extremely large cables to the shore. Example sections of the cables are displayed in front of the projection. The educational animation then displays how the electricity travels over Tottington Mount and down to an Onshore Substation where the electricity is used to power homes and buildings. The interactive had a four-stage button press interaction and used three projectors to get the full width required for the projection area. The team programmed a custom projector with an internally developed soft-edge blending technique for the display. This kept costs down without relying on additional projection mapping software.

An interactive control panel was also developed by our talented team of programmers. The interactive consisted of three screens house within fit-out kiosks. The design intention was to display with real-time graphics how different factors effect wind turbines and the energy they produce. Visitors could influence factors such as; wind speed, sea temperature, visibility, wave height, and lightning. Changing these factors on the main touch screen would then influence a user interface on 2 supporting displays showing turbine and windfarm information based on the adjusted inputs. This educated the visitor as to how many external considerations are required when generating electricity with an offshore windfarm.
